About

Award-Winning Writer and Editor

My first book was published in 1991 and since then I have written or co-written scores of books and magazine articles. In addition to my own work as a narrative nonfiction and fiction writer, I work as an editor, developmental editor, co-author, co-writer, ghost-writer, book writing coach and advisor to new writers—providing the help needed to bring a book, magazine article, op/ed piece, or essay to publication. I’m interested in a broad range of nonfiction topics and genres, including nature, animals, health, food, business, memoir, how-to, and self-help; I also enjoy writing contemporary fiction in novel, short-story, or screenplay form.

From 2007 until 2020, I served as a member of the faculty for the annual Harvard Medical School-sponsored CME three-day course, “Writing, Publishing, and Social Media for Healthcare Professionals.” I have been a writing instructor at the University of Rhode Island’s Harrington School of Communication and Media, and taught in the continuing education program at Brown University. During a nearly 18-year stint handling communications for a healthcare system, I was the executive editor for four healthcare newsletters and received multiple awards for my writing in print and online.

I am regularly engaged by literary agents, publishing house editors, and professionals from diverse occupations to help develop a book concept, write a book proposal, polish or co-write a book manuscript, co-author a book—whatever it takes to bring a book to life. Books are my passion, and I bring exceptional experience, in-depth knowledge, motivation, and enthusiasm to every project.

In addition, I help writers and authors understand and increase their “platform,” something that is more important than ever in the world of publishing, and develop pre- and post-publication marketing plans.

I live in New England but, thanks to the Internet, I work with writers across North America and beyond.
